Toray Plastics (America) Expands With New Coating Technology

Global customer demand for advanced-performance coatings drives investment.

North Kingstown, Rhode Island (April 23, 2013)-Toray Plastics (America), Inc., (www.torayfilms.com), the only United States manufacturer of precision-performance polyester, polypropylene, and bio-based films, has installed new coating equipment in order to meet customer demand for value-added films with advanced specialty layers. Industrial and packaging films and multi-layer and barrier structures that require specific surface properties are of special interest to customers. The new technology integrates seamlessly with Toray’s foundation of state-of-the-art film making technologies and will expand the range of the company’s PET, OPP, CPP, bio-based, and metallized film offerings. Toray’s new proprietary equipment will be operational in Q2 and a ribbon-cutting event with Toray executives and local dignitaries is planned for May 2, 2013.

“Our objective has always been to provide value to our customers so they are free to focus on their core competencies and grow their business,” says Paul Knollmeyer, Corporate Marketing Manager, Toray Plastics (America), Inc. “We’re very excited to be able to provide them with the kind of advanced technology they have requested.” Knollmeyer notes that the capital investment also presents Toray with the opportunity to further expand research and development into new and more advanced film technologies.
